Aim & Objective

  • To undertake experimental and research programmes.
  • To create technical standard of training for the Handloom Industry and to conduct short term and long term training programmes for technical personnel to be employed in the handloom sector.
  • To generate job opportunities in closest possible liaison between the Institutes and handloom production units.

Target Clientele

Services are being offered primarily to the young generations of N.E. Region including Sikkim in terms of career progression in order to make them self dependent entrepreneurs and to the individual handloom weavers and societies for updating value added new techniques.

Our Resources

  • Full commitment and support of the Government of India, Ministry of Textiles to make the Institute a vibrant focal point of handloom & textile technology for further and continuous development and growth of the handloom sector.
  • Qualified technical personnel in the field of weaving, processing, designing (CATD & CCM), dyeing and other supporting staff.
  • All need-based in operation looms, machines, accessories, allied equipment and all other teaching aids.
  • Need-based design development, technical input in the form of research in looms, dyeing techniques, innovations and prototype appliances for demonstration, used in the industries.
  • Class-wise excellent Weaving Sections, Processing Sections, Dyeing & Printing Section, Computer Laboratory, CATD & CCM Sections, Library & Documentation Section, FEEE Lab, Engineering Mechanics Lab, Physics Lab, Fabric Analysis & Costing Lab etc.

Research & Development

  • Combating against the rapid changing mood of customers gradually becoming a challenge for the decentralized handloom sectors, especially, in this era of global competitiveness. The traditional techniques infused with appropriate level of technology can be thought of as a judicious and time demanding approach/measure to boost up the situation. R&D works are undertaken continuously.
  • Sample development is being carried out as per demand of reputed Handloom Industries of NER.
  • To keep close liaison and interact with the industries in terms of usability of the DHTT curriculum and modify the syllabi by the concerned board at par with sustainable updating trends.

AICT Approval

  • This Institute obtained AICTE approval in the year 1999 and since then Extension of Approval (EOA) is obtained during every year.
  • The students from this Institute are covered under Term Plan Insurance including Medical Facilities with National Insurance Company, Guwahati.
  • The ICT Academy (Knowledge partner of AICTE) is conducting one course “Employability Enhancement Programme” for our Final Year students in order to enhance the communication skills, Personality and employability of Final Year DHTT Students of this Institute.
  • Induction Programme, Internship Programmes are conducted as per the instructions of AICTE.
  • Universal Human Values is taught to the students as per the directive of AICTE.

Help and Guidance

  • A website is maintained by the Institute https://www.iihtguwahati.in. It has a provision to record the grievances.
  • A complaint/grievance box is also placed in the Institute to drop written complaint/grievance. The box will be opened and checked daily for contents, if any.
  • A complaint/grievance will be promptly acknowledged and requisite action taken and communicated within 30 working days of receipt.
  • If for valid reason(s) a complaint/grievance cannot be redressed within the due time, a suitable interim intimation will be sent promptly.
  • All efforts will be made locally and satisfactory to redress grievances. However, if a complaint/grievance has not been attended to promptly or satisfactorily, at the local level, the matter may be considered to be taken up in writing with the following functionaries:
